Yesterday, Deputy Chief of Mission Elaine French spoke at Sierra Leone’s first national conference on trafficking in persons. An estimated 33% of children aged 5 to 17 in Sierra Leone’s Eastern Province have experienced child trafficking and 36% have experienced child labor, according to new research from the African Programming & Research Initiative to End Slavery (APRIES)
The U.S. government, through the U.S. Department of State Office to Combat and Monitor Trafficking in Persons has committed $7.4 million to help in the fight against child trafficking and child labor in Sierra Leone.
