If you are an American Citizen residing in or traveling to Sierra Leone, please email us with your questions or concerns. We will respond to your email message as soon as possible. Please browse the information on this web site and http://travel.state.gov first, as you may find the answer to your question faster.

We also urge you to register with the Embassy if you will be traveling or living in Sierra Leone to allow the American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit to better help and serve you, especially in the event of an emergency or disaster.

The ACS Unit is open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for routine services including passport services, reports of birth abroad, notary services, voter assistance, and tax forms.

Effective June 1, 2013, the U.S. Embassy Freetown is enforcing an appointment-only system for all non-emergency services. The appointment system allows American citizens in Sierra Leone to plan ahead and book a time to complete their required service. This reduces wait times for U.S. citizens who require non-emergency services. Due to a consistently-growing workload, the ACS section has moved to the appointment-only policy that is being followed at Embassies and Consulates worldwide.

American citizens who come to the Embassy for non-emergency services, but who do not have an appointment, will not be able to receive non-emergency services, such as routine passport applications and renewals, additional visa pages, notary or report of birth services at that time.

The U.S. Embassy schedules appointments Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., except Sierra Leonean and American holidays. To make an appointment, please click here. Please bring your passport or other form of photo identification to your appointment.

For emergencies including cases involving serious illness or injury, death, and victims of serious crime, the ACS Unit is available 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.  For emergencies after hours, please call (232) (99) 905 029.
