Traffic Alert – U. S. Embassy Freetown, Sierra Leone

Event: On Wednesday, March 7, Sierra Leone will hold general elections. Motor vehicle traffic will be restricted to official vehicles from 6:00am to 7:00pm. Please see the attached official message from the Government of Sierra Leone.
Movement of people on foot is allowed, but should be limited to polling stations and home again. All businesses and shops will be closed. Hotels will be on minimum staffing. Services will be at a minimum. The U.S. Embassy in Freetown will be closed to routine services.
Actions to Take:
- Plan to limit travel.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
