US MARINES MENTOR RSLAF NOMINEES ON PHYSICAL FITNESS SKILLS

Marines from the US Mission Sierra Leone recently joined RSLAF soldiers to provide mentoring on the physical fitness requirements of the US Marine Corps. The event, held at Lumley Beach on May 26th, included a fitness test for RSLAF soldiers who had been selected to attend US Marine Corps training courses in the United States. The Marines familiarized the RSLAF participants with test procedures, requirements, and standards. Participants at the event also included Physical Fitness Instructors from the RSLAF, who joined in the opportunity to collaborate on training techniques and procedures.

Three RSLAF participants will be attending the Basic Officer’s Course, Sergeant’s Course and the Staff Non-Commissioned Officers Course later this summer as part of the US International Military Education and Training Program. The increasing participation of RSLAF Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) in US courses is part of the shared US / Sierra Leone Government effort to develop the RSLAF NCO cadre, which serves as a vital link between officers and junior ranking men and women. The US Marines and RSLAF Physical Fitness Trainers hope to make these events a regular occurrence
