World AIDS Day

Today is World AIDS Day, a day to commemorate the lives lost to the epidemic, to encourage actions to end the epidemic, and support those living with a positive status. As Ambassador Reimer stated today at the Sierra Leone’s World AIDS Day commemoration, the U.S. partners with Sierra Leone to achieve our shared goal of controlling the HIV epidemic by 2030, with 95% of all people living with HIV knowing their status, 95% of those diagnoses with HIV linked to treatment, and 95% of those on treatment having achieved suppression of the virus, thus living a normal life.
Through programs like the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Department of Defense’s support to HIV/AIDS Prevention Program, more Sierra Leoneans have access to testing and treatment than ever before.
